The Story Behind
Ubaka Coaching

U-ba-ka comes from the verb “kw’ubaka” which means “to build” in Kirundi. Angélique had at heart to find a name that conveyed her work’s core mission and, at the same time, reflected part of her identity and cultural heritage. Throughout her career and in her personal life, Angélique has found great joy and profound fulfillment in helping people feel better, do better and be better. So far, she has had invaluable opportunities to uplift people, to encourage and support them in the pursuit of their goals and dreams while increasing their self-awareness. BUILDING people up comes naturally and effortlessly to her, and doing so in an organizational context, has become her mission.
In the early stages of designing her coaching enterprise’s logo, during a long drive to Toronto, the image of ‘Igiseke’ came to her mind. She had been trying to consolidate her own understanding of coaching and what it should aim to achieve. Igiseke (plural: Ibiseke) is a basket, traditionally used (and still is to a certain extent) in Burundi, her home country, to carry gifts and store valuable foods. Ibiseke have different woven patterns depending on their particular function and the region they originate from but their purpose is the same across. They are a perfect representation of what she believes and wants her clients to know.
“We all carry gifts and infinite potential inside of us that can benefit our various environments. As a Psychological Safety Coach, I want to journey with you and help you become aware of the gifts you carry, unpack them and build on them in order to create a solid sense of safety for yourself and those around you.”
OUR MISSION
To build a community of psychologically safe leaders and workplaces locally and internationally. A psychologically safe leader can transform the collective experience of wellness in the workplace.
OUR VALUES
We want to create workplaces where people can show up as themselves and thrive. Responsible authenticity is important because we must remain aware of our impact on others when we choose to show up as our authentic selves. We are interdependent beings. We will create a space for you to show up as yourself and grow while also building awareness of your impact on those you lead.
It is reflected through clear and open communication and the sharing of clear information about processes and expectations. There are no hidden agendas. Transparency allows people to make better decisions and choices and avoid false assumptions. We will always be transparent about our processes, the method we use and the expectations of our work together.
“Walk the talk” especially when no one is looking. Actions and behaviours must follow our words and commitments. Integrity builds trust and active engagement. We hold ourselves accountable to our commitment to you.
In a world where the only constant is change, it becomes imperative to embrace adaptability. Adaptability allows us to weather the storms with grace and peace, challenges us to constantly re-assess and re-position ourselves in order to move forward, grow and stay relevant. It breeds creativity and flexibility. We will continuously adapt our approach to your unique needs and context.
